Can we be more connected yet more alone?
Despite our technological advances and social networking are we feeling more connected or more alone? We stay in touch however are people touching our lives the way we need them to? Can we be more connected yet more alone? Now it seems more awkward not to be engaged in our devices in a crowd. But who can we share our deepest thoughts with? Where can we lay our burdens down?
Not only are we our brothers and her sister’s keepers, we are our brothers and our sisters! We are all one humanity, all children of God in love and service.
As a physician people come to me for help. Often things have been bottled up inside for a long time. Our modern society supports rugged individualism instead of community, cooperative effort and shared responsibility. Not only are we our brothers and her sister’s keepers, we are our brothers and our sisters! We are all one humanity, all children of God in love and service. Our human nature requires supports through all the changes, transitions and struggles of our lives. As physician I can provide limited guidance in my area of expertise but our lives are multidimensional. All people need a circle of support.
We all need intimate relationships that we can count on for support, advice and counsel.
Many are seeking meaning in their lives. A reflective life brings issues to the forefront. As these issues arise we are looking for guidance and assistance for self-improvement. Where can we go? Who can we turn to? We need mentors and role model to guide our progress. We all need intimate relationships that we can count on for support, advice and counsel. Who has been a pathfinder on the road we would like to travel? Who has the character traits that we would like to develop? Who has the experience in the area where we are having challenges? How can we seek their assistance? What makes us fearful of asking for help? Pride? Shame? Abandonment issues?
